About The Position

The City of Roanoke is seeking a Paramedic for a full-time, non-suppression position with the Roanoke Fire-EMS. This position performs technical work in human health emergency medical services where duties are performed under emergency conditions and frequently involve considerable personal hazard. The Paramedic assists in maintaining equipment inventory on emergency vehicles. Maintains vehicles in a clean and working order. Bilingual, Spanish/English speakers encouraged to apply. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Associate degree with courses in emergency health sciences or related field
  • Related experience and/or training in emergency medical service
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license and EVOC approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must possess and maintain EMT-Paramedic (or be an EMT-I and obtain EMT-Paramedic within 1 year of employment)
  • Must possess and maintain AHA, ACLS, PHTLS, PALS and any other required certifications appropriate to duty assignment within the Fire/EMS department.
  • Submit to a drug screening test.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining equipment inventory on EMS vehicles
  • Maintains EMS Vehicles in a clean and working order
  • Performs daily routine station and grounds cleaning and assigned maintenance as directed
  • Responds to emergency medical calls and performs related emergency work as required
  • Provides patient care and administers basic and advanced life support techniques and treatment in accordance with local, regional and state policy
  • Prepares a variety of reports and complete records as required
  • Assists in activities not directly related to emergencies (i.e. public education, standby situations, etc.)
  • May supervise staff at an emergency scene.
