About The Position

The Paramedic will be responsible for providing Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care, Advanced Life Support (ALS) patient care, and ambulance transportation. This role involves maintaining units and equipment, performing emergency and non-emergency ambulance operations with a partner, and ensuring proper vehicle maintenance. The Paramedic must have a thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations, EMS guidelines, and local geography. They will also act as a resource to others, assist staff, and maintain crew quarters. Responsibilities include responding to calls efficiently, providing ALS patient care according to established guidelines and local protocols, diagnosing and treating patients, and completing medical records and transportation reports. The role requires adherence to the Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. The position involves frequent contact with various individuals inside and outside the organization, and errors can lead to serious consequences such as improper costs, waste, or damage. The role may involve leading the work of co-employees. The work environment is demanding, with exposure to dirt, odors, noise, temperature extremes, and potential contact with infectious diseases or bio-hazardous materials. The role requires considerable physical effort, including lifting, carrying, and handling medium to heavy objects, and working in reaching or strained positions frequently. Specific physical demands include frequent bending, typing, standing, walking, lifting (up to 60 lbs.), carrying, climbing, kneeling, smelling, manual dexterity, feeling, reaching, balancing, crawling, running in emergencies, handling, squatting, and frequent use of N95 respirators. Occasional use of hazmat suits and driving utility vehicles is also required. Frequent driving of Class C vehicles is expected.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
One year of related experience
Working knowledge of standard practices and procedures
Paramedic License
ACLS Certification
Driver's License
Healthcare Provider (CPR) Certification
Knowledge of Emergency clinical practices and protocol
Knowledge of Use of medical and related emergency equipment
Knowledge of Local geography
Ability to act calmly and quickly in emergencies
Ability to work independently as part of a team, sometimes alongside emergency fire and police units
Ability to create and maintain a positive and cooperative working environment in stressful situations
Ability to work during odd hours and for extended periods, sometimes outdoors and in adverse weather conditions
Ability to work with much standing, bending and kneeling
Ability to work with a partner in lifting patients whose weight occasionally exceeds 200 pounds

Exercising judgment, dexterity, and physical coordination

Completes all daily station duties and maintains crew quarters in neat and serviceable conditions
Responds to all assigned calls in the most appropriate, safe and efficient manner to quickly assess the scene and request other help if needed
Provides ALS patient care in accordance with established ACLS and BTLS guidelines and observing prescribed local protocols and clinical practices
Diagnoses and treats patient with appropriate techniques, resources and equipment
Completes appropriate medical records and transportation reports
Maintains a through working knowledge of current Paramedic standards of care, including equipment function and use
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program
Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline
