About The Position

Paramedic - Emergency Dept, Full Time Nights at Piedmont Eastside Medical Center- Emergency Dept. This is a 38-bed Emergency Department that sees an average of 160 patients a day with various acuities. The facility is a primary Stroke and Stemi receiving center capable of administering thrombolytics and has two helicopter pads on campus. Patients are assigned to one of 5 PODs (Patient Originating Destinations) based on acuity, including a Behavioral Health Pod. The department features a collaborative team including Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians, and Unit Secretaries working with ED Providers to deliver exceptional care. All staff members must have BLS, RNs require ACLS and PALS, and NIH is highly preferred, with a requirement to obtain it within an allotted timeframe.

Requirements

All staff members must have a BLS to work in this unit.
RN’s must have ACLS and PALS required.
NIH highly preferred, must obtain within allotted timeframe.
Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
BCLS - Basic Life Support BLS Certification Upon Hire Required
ACLS Upon Hire Required
PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Paramedics new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date within 180 Days Required
Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Georgia and National Registry Preferred

Nice To Haves

NIH highly preferred
1 year of experience as a Paramedic Preferred
LP - Licensed Paramedic Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Georgia and National Registry Preferred

Patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, and oversight of unlicensed personnel.
Must have a working knowledge of intramuscular, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizers, intravenous, and intravenous push medications-effect, side effects, drug to drug interaction and anaphylaxis protocol.
Working knowledge of venous blood sampling, and cardiac monitor knowledge.
Working knowledge of the body’s systems to include neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, primary and secondary trauma assessment.
Must have strong customer service, interpersonal skills and be able to work with a team.
Responsible for providing safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age-appropriate and culturally aware needs.
Able to assess a patient's needs and respond to direction by the Professional Registered Nurse and Physician.
Perform EKG'S.
Perform Foley catheters.
Start IV'S, IO'S & draw blood.
Transport patients to other departments.
May be required to monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormal rhythms and changes immediately to Charge Nurse and Nurse.
