About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking a Part Time Paramedic for a temporary, supernumerary role to provide frontline coverage during planned absences. This position is for either a Primary or Advanced Care Paramedic on a rotation of day shifts, 2 on, 4 off, in various locations as needed. The role involves 12-hour shifts and is a 0.67 FTE temporary position for one calendar year. The Paramedic is responsible for providing immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals, operating within their scope of practice, and providing leadership and ensuring safety during each shift. A high level of professionalism, communication, and knowledge is expected due to public visibility. The role requires conducting oneself in a safe and discreet manner, justifying conduct to various stakeholders. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s
  • Certified in and maintains CPR certification
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics
  • FARE Certificate Required
  • Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.
  • Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients.
  • Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments.
  • Will advise director, and/or team leader, of injuries that will impair duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP) to deliver optimum patient care.
  • Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with the MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Stock and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
  • Work with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
  • Document all patient care, assessments, and skills within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
  • Be punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
  • Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follow the MHS - West chain of command.
  • Create and maintain fully completed patient care reports (ePCRs).
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.
  • Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to the Director of MHS - West or designate.
  • Develop and provide continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Maintain functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines and AHS medical control guidelines.
  • Participate actively in the MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
  • Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
  • Actively participate in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.
  • Maintain professional appearance of the approved uniform, and maintain hygienic and grooming standards.
