About The Position

The Paramedic's job function is to transport sick and injured persons by ambulance in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort and to administer Basic Life Support level pre-hospital care and treatment within the limits defined by the State of Ohio law and North Central EMS' Medical Director.

Requirements

• State of Ohio law and North Central EMS' Medical Director.
• Ability to use and apply EKG monitoring.
• Ability to determine need for Intermediate vs. Paramedic care and transfer care to a Paramedic as regulated by local adopted protocols in addition to the State Scope of Practice.
• Knowledge and ability to set up the heart monitor, IV lines/supplies, and intubation equipment.

Responsibilities

• Transport sick and injured persons by ambulance in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort.
• Administer Basic Life Support level pre-hospital care and treatment within the limits defined by the State of Ohio law and North Central EMS' Medical Director.
• Establish and maintain IVs.
• Use and apply EKG monitoring.
• Determine the need for Intermediate vs. Paramedic care and transfer care to a Paramedic as regulated by local adopted protocols in addition to the State Scope of Practice.
• Determine the nature and extent of illness and injury and establish priority for required pre-hospital emergency care.
• Administer proper pre-hospital treatment to the patient at the scene and in route to the hospital.
• Provide appropriate airway management to patients.
• Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to patients.
• Provide appropriate treatment for control of hemorrhage and shock.
• Provide appropriate management for immobilization of suspected fractures and dislocations.
• Provide appropriate dressings and bandages for wound care.
• Provide appropriate assistance in immediate childbirth delivery, and care for newborn infants.
• Provide immediate initial treatment to poison and burn patients.
• Provide appropriate oxygen therapy to patients.
• Provide assistance to the Paramedic by having the knowledge and ability to set up the heart monitor, IV lines/supplies, and intubation equipment.
