About The Position

This Paramedic role at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital - Lake Saint Louis is more than a career, it's a calling. The position involves providing basic and advanced life support treatment, care, and evaluation of patients directly on scene. Key responsibilities include identifying, intervening, and stabilizing ill or injured patients during both intrafacility and interfacility transport, always under the direction and in collaboration with a physician and/or Registered Nurse (RN). The Paramedic initiates and implements interventions based on established team protocols, and is responsible for monitoring, recording, and communicating the patient's condition and treatment as appropriate. Additionally, the role involves providing population-specific education to patients and their families regarding the patient's illness and therapeutic interventions. The Paramedic must also inspect, maintain, and care for equipment to ensure the safety of the team, patients, and the public, and is expected to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. The position may also include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, recording information on patient charts, preparing treatment rooms, performing basic clerical duties such as answering phones, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing, and assisting with treatments ordered by a provider under supervision.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • No experience required
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA) (required for all states)
  • Paramedic - Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) (for Illinois)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (for Missouri and Oklahoma)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA) (for Missouri and Oklahoma)
  • Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT) - Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services (for Missouri)
  • Driver’s License - State of Oklahoma (for Oklahoma)
  • Paramedic - Oklahoma State Department of Health (for Oklahoma)
  • Paramedic - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) (for Oklahoma)
  • Driving Record - Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) (for Oklahoma)
  • Paramedic - Wisconsin Department of Health Services (for Wisconsin)

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, and may intervene and stabilize, the ill or injured patient during intrafacility and/or interfacility transport under the direction and in collaboration with the physician and/or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Initiates and implements interventions based on team protocols.
