Requirements

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Paramedic
  • 2 - 3 years Paramedic Experience
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • State of Georgia Paramedic License

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to internal and external departments to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Cooperate with other units to achieve division objectives and maintain good employee relations.
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information, and abide by established communications code.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliation.
  • Provide direct patient care to all patients and family.
  • Admit, transfer, discharge patients, transcribe orders, charting, complete charges, and clerical duties when necessary.
  • Take and record vital signs, measure and record intake and output.
  • Take and prescribe physician's orders to appropriate records, cards, schedules, lists, etc.
  • Receive and give reports to supervisor or nurse as needed.
  • Initiate discharge/transfer process and provide for patient escort.
  • Keep emergency supply cart equipped and ready for use.
  • Maintain controlled drug records.
  • Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately document designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
  • Ensure that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.
  • Use correct terminology.
  • Conform to required style and format.
  • Develop an individualized plan with strategies that address diagnoses.
  • Provide for continuity through a plan that directs other members of the team.
  • Implement the plan in a safe and timely manner.
  • Document implementation and include changes or omissions of the identified plan.
  • Consult with healthcare providers and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Utilize appropriate community resources and systems to implement the plan.
  • Treat patients and families with compassion and implement plan of care.
  • Base care decisions on plan of care.
  • Monitor and document patient response.
  • Establish rapport with clients.
  • Adapt communication style, listen and respond to patient needs.
  • Recognize age-specific responses to treatment.
  • Provide effective interventions.
  • Respect patients confidentiality and privacy.
  • Support social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Manage difficult or emotional patient situations.
  • Demonstrate technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role.
  • Understand equipment operation.
  • Maintain equipment in working order.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Use technology to increase productivity.
  • Adapt to new technology.
  • Adhere to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as required and complete all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrate competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, attend training and demonstrate usage of age- specific customer service skills.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
