About The Position

Performs advanced technical work responding, rescuing, and transporting the sick and injured and administering emergency medical care at the paramedic level. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Shift Supervisor. Daily guidance and direction concerning patient care is provided by an Emergency Medical Service Senior or Master Paramedic.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or a GED
  • North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Credential issued by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services
  • Completion of hazardous materials awareness course
  • Completion of emergency driver course
  • Certifications in advanced cardiac life support
  • Certifications in pediatric advanced life support
  • Certifications in international trauma life support
  • Certifications in CPR
  • Certifications in national incident management systems
  • Possession of an appropriate driver's license
  • Possession of all certifications for the position as required by the State of North Carolina and the department
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment, and transportation
  • Thorough knowledge of medications including actions, indications, contraindications, dosages, and methods of administration
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced airway maintenance procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, protocols, skills, and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents
  • Thorough knowledge of the street and road system and physical layout of the county
  • Skill in diagnosing a victim's condition and applying emergency medical care
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to keep records
  • Ability to prepare reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and their families, associates, and the general public
