The Paramedic - Urgent Care role focuses on providing patient/family-centered care, addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. This involves rapid evaluation of life-threatening emergencies, implementing prescribed therapies within the scope of practice, and collaborating with nursing and medical teams to establish treatment goals. The position requires maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment, utilizing technology to enhance safety, and communicating effectively as a member of the healthcare team. It also involves active participation in a professional practice model, including shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review, professional development, and autonomous practice with accountability for actions and critical thinking. The role includes acting as a patient advocate, identifying clinical priorities, initiating actions to improve patient outcomes, and using medications, treatments, and protocols within the scope of practice as defined by NCOEMS under physician orders. Competency in point-of-care testing, documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and patient re-assessment are also key responsibilities. High-level teamwork with other members of the Emergency Department Care team, support for evidence-based practice, and facilitation of optimal patient flow are essential.
