About The Position

Under minimal supervision, trains Denver Health Paramedic Division employees, Denver Fire Department employees, and members of the public in current pre-hospital emergency medical care theory and technique. Develops, designs, and implements new training courses. Researches and compiles information in instructional area. Accesses and prepares appropriate educational materials.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years in advanced life support ambulance experience required.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • EMTP-EMT Paramedic - CO - State of Colorado required.
  • Patient Care: Clinical evaluation and management of emergency medicine and observation care.
  • Patient Care: Personnel management.
  • Patient Care: Work-flow and quality improvement.
  • Patient Care: Knowledge of medical and nursing principals, procedures, and community resources.
  • Patient Care: Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
  • Patient Care: Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
  • Patient Care: Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
  • Patient Care: Physical health assessment skills.
  • Patient Care: Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
  • Patient Care: Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
  • Patient Care: Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
  • Patient Care: Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Patient Care: Ability to prepare accurate reports.
  • Patient Care: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other departments and the public.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the monitoring of progress, needs and effectiveness of the Paramedic School clinical areas
  • Assists in the monitoring of progress, needs and effectiveness of the Paramedic School classroom schedule
  • Assists in the monitoring of progress, needs and effectiveness of the Paramedic School syllabus (90%)
  • Train residents, medical students, and other health care professionals. (10%)
