About The Position

Covenant Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provides rapid response with specially trained personnel and equipped vehicles. The team supports patient care and outcomes, post-discharge planning, and community engagement, working with Covenant medical centers and other facilities to provide advanced-level transport options. The Paramedic II - EMS is a public safety professional who provides direct care to patients experiencing medical emergencies, acute illnesses, or injuries in pre-hospital and interfacility settings. The role involves assessing patients and providing emergent and critical-care interventions. The paramedic gathers information about patient identity, pre-existing conditions, medications, and other factors that inform medical decision-making and care. Local travel is required.

Requirements

At least two years of full-time experience as a paramedic, or experience as an RN in an acute-care setting.
Must hold and maintain a Tennessee Paramedic license or a valid, unrestricted license in a Compact Member state.
Must hold and maintain Critical Care Paramedic certification or Tennessee Community Paramedic Certification.
ACLS and BLS are required.
Must have a valid driver’s license and state-mandated minimum insurance coverage.
Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at hire and throughout employment.
Must complete applicable mandatory training and meet Tennessee minimum continuing education requirements.

Responsibilities

Provides emergency care for acute illness or injury, including medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, behavioral health emergencies, and related care for chronic comorbid conditions.
Administers medications and medical interventions within the approved scope of practice.
Uses EMS telecommunications to coordinate and exchange information with dispatchers, medical facilities, online medical control, and other system users, following applicable transmission rules and procedures.
Reports essential patient, condition, and treatment information to personnel assuming responsibility for continued care.
Completes Patient Care Reports and other documentation accurately and on time according to company policy.
Adheres to the Covenant Health EMS dress code while on duty.
Cleans and maintains vehicles and facilities, conducts and records routine vehicle checks, cleans and restocks assigned vehicles after calls, and refuels vehicles as required.
Supports scheduling, equipment and supply maintenance, and other daily operations as assigned by the EMS Manager and EMS Director.
Maintains daily narcotic logs and completes vehicle checks for onboard supplies and equipment.
Supports other programs and divisions within the Covenant EMS System as able.
Keeps regulatory training and certifications current and uploads certifications to the appropriate systems.
Coordinates with the EMS Manager and/or EMS Medical Director to develop training plans as needed.
Completes mandatory Covenant Health and EMS training, along with additional independent training to meet Tennessee continuing education requirements.
Prepares reports and manages projects as assigned by the EMS Manager.
Coordinates with the EMS Manager, EMS Director, and Covenant Health IT Team on IT needs, including computer maintenance and team-member account setup.
Complies with applicable local, state, and federal employment laws.
Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Completes required annual education assignments.
Works toward goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
