About The Position

The Ground Paramedic demonstrates advanced critical thinking capabilities in working autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers in the delivery of care to critically ill patients in diverse and non-traditional settings. This role involves providing advanced medical care, safely operating emergency vehicles, and transporting patients while maintaining effective communication and accurate documentation. The position also includes maintaining equipment, participating in ongoing training, supervising EMTs, and providing patient education. The Idaho Base (Community Health Emergency Services - CHEMS) focuses on continued care to prevent readmissions and unnecessary 911 calls.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Paramedic course
  • Must obtain Paramedic license in state of operation within 120 days
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
  • Current valid driver license in good standing
  • Ability to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
  • Frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients.
  • Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
  • Includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
  • Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification
  • Paramedic National Registry Certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification (must obtain within 120 days of hire and maintain throughout employment)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (must obtain within 120 days of hire and maintain throughout employment)
  • Attendance License (Before start of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced medical care, including evaluation, treatment, and stabilization of patients.
  • Safely drives and operates ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
  • Transports patients to appropriate medical facilities while ensuring their safety and stability.
  • Maintains effective communication with dispatch, hospital staff, police, fire personnel, and other necessary parties.
  • Accurately completes and maintains Patient Care Reports, files, and forms.
  • Cleans and maintains medical equipment, vehicles, and living quarters.
  • Participates in ongoing training and continuing education to maintain paramedic certification and stay current with medical protocols.
  • Provides supervision and ensures the quality and accuracy of care provided by EMTs and other emergency personnel.
  • Provides patient education on various health topics, including disease management and prevention.
  • Acts as healthcare navigators for patients.
  • Provides transitional care for patients after they are discharged from a hospital stay.
  • Manages vaccinations and medication inventories.
  • Coordinates resources.
  • Performs basic medical therapeutics.
