About The Position

Responsible for responding to requests by the nursing staff or physician staff. Assist with ALS interventions and to assist with emergency care within the emergency department according to protocols and polices approved by the hospital and emergency department medical director, and hospital policy. Performs other duties related to the provision of care as assigned after appropriate training.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a Paramedic Program.
  • Current EMT-P registration in the state of Texas.
  • Current BLS, ACLS & PALS are required.
  • Ability to stand/walk between 6 to 8 hours and sit between 4-6 hours.
  • Requires the motion to bend, squat, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull 1/3 or more of the time.
  • Climb up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Continuous use of hands in gross and precise motor function.
  • Lift up to 100 pounds 1/3 or more of the time.
  • Body fluid exposure.
  • Verbal and writing ability required to communicate effectively in informing employees of activities and policies.
  • Numerical ability required.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions; ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials; ability to comply with attendance requirements; ability to comply with Human Resource policies.
  • Manage anger, fear, hostility, and stress appropriately.
  • Work alone and with others effectively.
  • Handle multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year experience preferred as EMT.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to request for paramedic level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner.
  • Complete documentation and records according to department policy
  • Ensure emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response
  • Restock emergency department and report damaged, unsafe, or malfunctioning equipment
  • Assist with code and critical care patients within the emergency department
  • Performs all duties under the supervision of nursing with proper training and skills
  • Assist charge nurse in assessing, prioritizing, and maintaining patient flow and assist in reassessing patients waiting to be seen
  • Performs phlebotomy and lab specimen labeling according to policy on in patient and ER
  • Attends all required department-specific education and training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job related hazards
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions
  • Wears proper identification while on duty
