About The Position

Midwood EMS is seeking new and experienced Paramedics to work from our Brooklyn Base located in Coney Island. We are looking for dedicated individuals to provide quality patient care and ensure compliance with all state regulations. This role involves responding to calls, providing advanced life support, and maintaining the ambulance and its equipment.

Requirements

  • Current New York State Certified EMT Paramedic Card
  • REMSCO/REMAC Paramedic Certification
  • New York State driver's license (if required)
  • Any and all other requirements for the position as determined by the New York State Department of Health or other regulating agency or statute.
  • Must arrive on time, in proper uniform, neat and clean.
  • Possession of a New York State Emergency Medical Technician Certificate.
  • Personal patient care equipment must be in good working order and clean.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the patient compartment of the ambulance at the start of the shift.
  • Perform visual inspections of the patient compartment for cleanliness and damage.
  • Ensure access to and egress from the patient compartment.
  • Clean the patient compartment and equipment as necessary.
  • Complete inventory check sheets and replace damaged or missing items.
  • Ensure the ambulance is in compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Respond to all calls as directed by the dispatcher.
  • Treat all patients in accordance with New York State Basic Life Support Protocols and applicable regional and local ALS protocols.
  • Secure pertinent information and records from the transferring facility.
  • Introduce themselves to the patient and call the patient by proper name.
  • Tell the patient what is happening and where the patient is going.
  • Transport all patients on the stretcher.
  • Carry all patients to and from the ambulance.
  • Carefully monitor all patients during transport.
  • Record changes in patient's condition during transport.
  • Alter patient care in accordance with changes in the patient's condition.
  • Take all patients to their assigned room at a medical facility or to their apartment on discharge.
  • Properly complete the patient care record.
  • Properly complete all company paperwork and obtain all necessary signatures for billing purposes.
  • Report with the patient and records to the appropriate person at the receiving facility.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and courteous interaction with all medical facility staff.
  • Replace equipment in the ambulance as necessary to maintain compliance with State regulations and policy.
  • Return the patient compartment to a condition of readiness for the next call.
  • Notify dispatch of any change in patient’s destination.
  • Complete required in service training.
  • Maintain state and local certification.
  • Inventory and service ALS supplies and drugs in accordance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure that the assigned ambulance is equipped in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Perform ALS patient care in accordance with regional and state protocols.
  • Record patient care on proper forms.
  • Cooperate fully with state inspectors during inspections.
  • Notify dispatcher immediately in the event of an inspection.
  • Return the ambulance to the garage, secure the ambulance and equipment as required.
  • Replace all supplies used during the tour.
  • Report to the supervisor at the end of the shift.
  • Submit a report of any problems encountered during the tour to the supervisor.
