About The Position

This is a part-time position for a Paramedic/EMT-P at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The role involves determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or a manufacturing environment is expected. The role also supports environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives. Key responsibilities include: - Determining donor eligibility through informed consent, AIDS education, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE). - Evaluating and managing donor reactions according to SOPs. - Following SOPs for medical emergencies and donor transport. - Consulting with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, donor safety, and eligibility. - Supporting employee vaccination programs (Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu). - Managing employee incidents and determining the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER. - Potentially serving as a Pandemic Coordinator and supporting investigations related to pandemic threats.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting

  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility to donate plasma
  • Management of donor adverse events

  • Medical history interview and acceptance requirements
  • Physical examination
  • Blood testing
  • Reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE)
  • Evaluate donor reaction(s)
  • Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility
  • Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees
  • Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER
  • Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS
  • Support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs
