About The Position

This role is for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on ensuring donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The position operates under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues, requiring familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or manufacturing environments. The role also supports environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently licensed or certified as an EMT-Paramedic in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history review, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies according to SOPs, including standing orders and transport to emergency facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical/technical guidance, and donor safety/eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for occupational health/ER evaluation, referring to EHS guidance.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations of pandemic threats as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
