About The Position

As a Paralegal, you will proactively support Coastal Ridge operations and legal department in a constantly changing business and regulatory environment. You will support the legal department in preparing and organizing various legal documents pertaining to regulatory matters, administrative cases, and dispute settlements. You will ensure that Coastal Ridge and the legal entities it manages are compliant with all relevant state and local laws and support property operations’ compliance. This paralegal will be responsible for a variety of matters covering a broad range of responsibilities, driving positive impact on corporate and property operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of paralegal experience preferable in a corporate environment.
  • Preference given to candidates with prior property management and landlord/tenant industry experience.
  • Experience drafting correspondence, affidavits, and other legal-related documents.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
  • A detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to the small things that make a big difference.

Responsibilities

  • Full lifecycle project management for all aspects of resident disputes and insurance claims on behalf of Coastal Ridge and properties.
  • Draft, distribute and track settlement agreements.
  • Assist in facilitating EEOC and Fair Housing administrative cases, including locating and contacting witnesses, drafting witness affidavits, compiling and organizing documentary evidence, and drafting position statements.
  • Managing and updating various legal spreadsheets and handling administrative tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Track and report billable legal services provided to properties and corporate entities.
  • Manage property transition legal checklist.
  • Research case-related factual issues, state-specific landlord/tenant law, and compile relevant information into summaries.
  • Support outside counsel in litigation, including acting as property liaison for purposes of gathering documentary and eyewitness evidence.
  • Manage local attorney network and relations for landlord/tenant matters across portfolio; manage service provider relationships, including broker-of-record for portfolio and business entity compliance.
  • Contract review, organizing and managing documents, including the creation of spreadsheets and retrieval systems/archival.
  • Manage document summaries and archival for property management agreements, joint venture agreements, tile and surveys, easements, and other binding agreements.
  • Manage, on behalf of the legal department, incoming communications from properties, attorneys, residents, governmental agencies, brokers, insurers, and other stakeholders.
  • Draft correspondence to attorneys, regulatory agencies, concerned residents, and other stakeholders.
  • Track all public notifications received from local governments that may impact property operations including attorney general and code compliance violations.
  • Assist with document retrieval and legal checklist for property acquisitions, dispositions, and refinances.
  • Other duties as directed and assigned by Director of Risk Management, General Counsel, or Paralegal.
