About The Position

We’re looking for a Paralegal to join our Alcohol & Tobacco Control team!

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Paralegal or Legal Assistant program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA), or at an accredited college or university; OR Possession of a Certified Paralegal (CP) certification issued by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc.; OR A Juris Doctorate.
  • Disbarred attorneys and those who have permanently resigned from the practice of law in lieu of discipline may not be hired in any position in connection with the practice of law.
  • Suspended attorneys or an attorney transferred to disability inactive status during the period of suspension may not be hired in any position in connection with the practice of law unless such hiring is first preceded by the submission of a fully executed registration statement to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, on a registration form provided by the Louisiana Disciplinary Board and approved by the Louisiana Supreme Court.
  • The hiring agency is responsible for conducting the necessary background checks prior to appointment.
  • A Tax and Natural Disaster Clearance will be conducted on all selected applicants to validate the timely submission of tax returns and payments.
  • It is a requirement that all Revenue employees must adhere to all tax laws of the State of Louisiana.
  • LA R.S.15:587.5, 587.6 and the IRS require the Louisiana Department of Revenue to conduct a criminal history records check of a prospective employee who will access federal tax information to perform job duties.
  • Any applicant who receives and accepts a conditional offer of employment will require a completed criminal history records check prior to his or her first day of work.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research on statutes, regulations, administrative rules, and case law relevant to ATC operations.
  • Summarize findings for attorney review and prepares research memoranda.
  • Draft routine legal documents including notices, decision, consent decrees, subpoenas, affidavits, motions, correspondence, and administrative filings subject to review and approval of attorneys.
  • Assists with processing public records requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
