The Professional Negligence/Medical Malpractice Paralegal will support the Professional Negligence and Product Liability Defense group. This is a nonexempt administrative position that reports to the Office Administrator and assigned attorneys. There are no direct reports to this position. The Paralegal will work a regular schedule as determined by the Office Administrator and/or assigned attorneys. The typical schedule will consist of 7.5 hours per day equating to 37.5 hours per week. Additional hours (including overtime) will be required on occasion. This is a fully in‑office position that may be based in Charlotte or Raleigh, North Carolina.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of litigation experience, preferably with insurance defense/medical malpractice matters within a law firm, legal industry and an Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced computer skills required, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with iManage preferred.
  • Prior experience with a legal time and billing system.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize work, and accommodate time‑sensitive requests.
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to work independently and in a team setting while managing a high‑volume workload in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and support team members during high‑volume periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Nursing or medical experience preferred.
  • Trial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with complete case management of files, from initial filing of lawsuit through trial and appeal.
  • Draft correspondence to clients as well as assisting attorneys with drafting/preparing pleadings and discovery documents.
  • Compile and prepare documents for production
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, experts, outside counsel, and court personnel to coordinate meetings, depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial dates.
  • Efficiently organize, index, and prepare summaries of extensive medical records and billing documentation for complex medical malpractice cases.
  • Provide comprehensive trial support, including trial preparation activities such as electronic presentations, witness coordination, and exhibit management, as well as assisting attorneys during trial proceedings.
  • Conduct investigative research and gather information from a variety of resources.
  • Assist with retaining expert witnesses including preparation of records for review, supplementing materials throughout the case, and assist with trial preparation and appearance.
  • Assist with electronic filings in Federal Court.
  • Assist attorneys with medical board matters, subpoena responses, and other miscellaneous legal matters.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership.
