About The Position

Perform various legal tasks to assist attorney in representing insurance carrier in various first-party litigation and arbitration (i.e., uninsured motorist, loss-transfer subrogation, small claims, etc.)

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word is required.
  • Must be able to work independently, prioritize and work efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, paralegal certificate, and/or 5+ years of paralegal experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of TimeMatters, Imageright and/or Excel is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Works with claims departments to effectuate referrals of new legal files.
  • Opens files in case management software and sets up paperless legal files.
  • Assists attorney with diary creation, management, and follow-up to ensure timely filing of papers with the Court.
  • Responsible for monitoring incoming mail via physical and electronic means.
  • Scans incoming physical mail.
  • Organizes mail into electronic file folders.
  • Responsible for monitoring department phone line/voicemail and answering/returning calls.
  • Files pleadings, motions, and other legal documents with NYSCEF and EDDS.
  • Communicates with claims examiners, vendors, process servers, outside counsel, and Court personnel.
  • Processes and submits bills for payment.
  • Assists with the management of legal department calendar.
  • Includes communication with attorneys and their staff, the Court, outside counsel, witnesses, etc.
  • Monitors eTracks and AAA calendars.
  • Prepares motions, petitions, answers, arbitration submissions, letters, and other legal documents.
  • Assembles exhibits for various legal documents.
  • Photocopies and serves legal documents via physical mail and electronic means.
  • Prepares and files affidavits of service.
  • Assists in preparing cases for trial and arbitration hearings.
  • Requests and follows up for discovery.
