About The Position

The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Paralegal 2 in the Labor and Personnel Division. This position is located in Tumwater, Washington, and is not union-represented. Requirements

  • Combination of four years of experience through: Paralegal certification, Two-year paralegal degree, Paralegal plus (or nine-month paralegal, post BA) certification, and/or Paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney OR One year experience as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State Service.
  • Preparing legal pleadings and legal correspondence
  • Ensuring and verifying timely and proper service of legal documents
  • Calculating, verifying, and calendaring critical events and other dates
  • Managing case documents, files and exhibits
  • Tracking and organizing discovery documents
  • Researching legal issues and verifying legal citations and references for accuracy

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare letters, pleadings, and other documents for litigation, including affidavits and declarations in support of motions.
  • Review and prepare responses to formal discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission; review answers to opposing parties' requests for discovery for completeness and proper objections.
  • Research and gather facts; identify legal issues; interview witnesses to obtain information relating to the facts and defenses of the case.
  • Report findings to attorneys and prepare memoranda, as appropriate, to the case file.
  • Prepare for and participate in trials and hearings, working with the litigation team during case.
  • Development and preparation, including analysis of legal issues, exhibit preparation, and presentation of the case during trial.
  • Prepare witnesses, documentary evidence, computer-generated evidence, and demonstrative evidence for trials, hearings, depositions, and any other proceeding in which testimony is required.
  • Identify and provide information and evidence to experts.
  • Assist in drafting contracts and tracking payments to lay and expert witnesses.
  • File documents at the court and serve documents on opposing counsel.
  • Assist in filing forms and documents in all forums.
  • Provide technical and legal support in every aspect of class action cases and labor and personnel cases.
  • Establish priorities in accordance with relevant statutes, rules of evidence, and court-imposed deadlines.
  • Identify, locate, collect, organize, analyze, and manage documentary, statistical, computer, and demonstrative evidence, including records and other information obtained from public and private sources.
  • Review documents for attorney client privileged communication, work product, and information that is statutorily protected from production.
  • Conduct legal and other technical research utilizing Westlaw, CBAs, library resources, state archives, documents provided by the clients, and the internet regarding case specific issues, case law, and legislative history.
  • Serves as the primary Bill Analysis Coordinator for the division, coordinating and tracking bill analysis responses.
  • Serves as backup or rotational CE Reader to review all mail and identifies, calculates, and calendars critical events pursuant to AGO Policy and Procedures.
