About The Position

This role provides flexible, building-based support across multiple students, classrooms, and settings. The paraeducator will assist in implementing academic, behavioral, social-emotional, executive functioning, and independence supports as outlined in IEPs, 504 plans, MTSS interventions, and building-level student support systems. The position requires adaptability to changing student, classroom, and building needs, working collaboratively with administrators and case managers to support students in accessing instruction, classroom routines, transitions, and inclusion opportunities. Responsibilities may include providing personal care, mobility assistance, delegated health tasks, and adaptive support as trained and assigned, all while promoting student independence and self-regulation. Data collection and documentation are essential to help teams monitor support effectiveness and adjust interventions. The role involves utilizing assistive technology and behavior support strategies, collaborating with various school professionals, and completing required CPI, de-escalation, and safety training. Flexibility and physical capability are necessary to provide support across different settings, including physical assistance, lifting, and toileting.

Requirements

Must provide high school diploma (or equivalent) AND 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, OR pass an academically rigorous assessment.
Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
Must complete Core Competencies within one year if hired into a Paraeducator position (refer to the ESS Collective Bargaining Agreement).
Demonstrated interest in working with students with a broad range of disabilities.
Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors.
Have successfully completed or be willing to complete the District de-escalation/soft restraint training.
Must demonstrate initial competency level as measured by instructor observation.
Willing and physically capable of kneeling, bending, and working or sitting on the floor with students; running after students, based on student needs.
Provide personal care assistance to students including, but not limited to, feeding, tube feeding (with training), toileting and diapering, based on student needs.
Must pass the District strength and agility screening test, when necessary and based on student needs.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Heavier lifting will utilize a two-person lift or assistive devices.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a positive, professional, and confidential manner.
Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to follow directions, carry out routines, and implement interventions as directed by certificated staff or supervisors.
Basic computer skills required.
Proficiency in basic communication skills and ability to see, hear, and listen to the teacher and students throughout the classroom or school settings in order to supervise and maintain a safe environment for a diverse group of students.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
A fingerprint background check is required for all prospective employees.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction in core academic areas designed by the teachers/specialists.
Assist the special education teacher/general education teacher in the implementation of the student Individual Education Plan, including student accommodations and modifications.
Assist the teacher in preparing materials and collecting and recording data.
Participate as a contributing member of a collaborative team.
Assist the teacher in implementing behavioral and social skills programs as designed and supervised by certificated staff.
Under the supervision of certificated staff, implement the district de-escalation and soft-restraint techniques as needed.
Assist students with physical and mobility needs and personal care.
Assist secondary students with pre-vocational and transition activities.
Manage student equipment and assistive technology as needed.
Supervise and promote safety of students in multiple settings.
Administer, monitor, and document medication following the District policy/procedures and student health care plan, as needed.
