About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Paraeducator in Special Education, working 184 days a year for 6.5 hours per day. The role involves assisting in the instruction of students with disabilities in various settings, including mainstream, resource room, or center-based environments. Duties can vary based on student age and disability level, and may include managing student behavior, monitoring and recording student progress, and assisting with physical needs such as toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
  • Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or have passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
  • Good communications, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
  • Ability to supervise students.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, but not limited to toileting, feeding and self-care procedures.
  • Must be physically working in the building.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings.
  • Manages behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
  • Monitors and records student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
  • Manages physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Implements behavioral management program.
  • Maintains student data.
  • Works with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
