About The Position

Complement, supplement and reinforce students in instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms. Utilize best practices to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Early Childhood Developmental Delay, as well as other special needs. This position is a Classroom Assistant/Special Education Assistant role reporting to the Building Principal. It is a school-year position for 2026-27, starting in August 2026 at Spring Mills Elementary School. The salary is $16.25/hour based on the Para Contract. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 32.5 hours per week. The position was posted on 8/5/2026 and will remain open until filled, with a closing date of 8/11/2026.

Requirements

  • Must have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilities
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnel
  • Must possess initiative to accept and carry out varied assignments along with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performed
  • Must be willing to be trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques
  • Must be willing to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to physically manage students who are physically escalated as directed by the teacher/administrator
  • High School diploma and/or related experience.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Previous experience working with this age special education student is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Complement, supplement and reinforce student's instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms
  • Assist with the preparation of material; clean up after students, etc.
  • Assist with the general supervision of the students including lunchtime, recess time, etc.
  • On an as needed basis para-professional employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedure or assistance with regular hygiene
  • Other duties as assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal
