About The Position

The Paraeducator Specialist - EL (Bilingual Required) position at Peninsula Elementary is a classified role working 6.50 hours per day for 180 days per year. The shift time is subject to building needs. This role requires a high school diploma or GED and either a minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or passing the ETS test. Experience working with students in an educational setting is necessary, along with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Fluency in both Spanish and English is a mandatory requirement. The specialist must be able to relate positively to students, parents, staff, and teachers, and have the ability to work with elementary students in a tutoring capacity. Successful experience with students with disabilities is also required. The role involves responding with compassion to students needing assistance with personal care and verbally coaching them through such situations.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
A minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution or pass ETS test required.
Experience working with students in an educational setting.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Fluent in Spanish and English required.
Ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers, supervisory staff.
Ability to work with elementary students in a tutoring situation.
Successful experience working with students with disabilities.
Must be willing to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance with personal care, including verbally coaching students through such situations.
Excellent attendance.
Always punctual.

Responsibilities

If absences are required, informs supervisor early enough so that normal work flow is not interrupted.
Well groomed and has a neat and clean appearance.
Dresses appropriately for job assignment.
Promptly and accurately follows specific instructions, and performs duties with a positive attitude.
Applies appropriate discipline according to district procedures and behavior plans.
Works independently and solves problems with minimal supervision.
Works well with special needs children individually or in small groups to communicate the appropriate learning objectives as outlined in their individualized educational program (IEP) under supervision of certified staff.
Builds a positive relationship with special needs students.
Encourages special needs students to develop positive relationships with their peers.
Has or gets Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Non-violent Restraint training.
Receives training to gain understanding of specific disabilities.
Responsibly supervises special needs students in the classroom, lunchroom, etc.
Responsible for supervision of special needs students upon arrival and departure from school.
Monitors activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules.
Assists special needs students who are ill or injured in a responsible, caring manner.
Accepts and acts on suggestions and comments for improving performance.
Must have excellent attendance.
Always punctual.
If absences are required, informs the supervisor early enough so that normal workflow is not interrupted as well as enters absence in the district absence management system.
Other duties as assigned.
