About The Position

This is a full-time Paraeducator Special Education position for 184 days a year, working 6.5 hours per day. The position can be filled after a 5-day posting period. There are 3 positions available. The role involves assisting in the instruction of students with disabilities in various settings, including mainstream, resource room, or center-based classrooms. Job duties can vary based on student age and disability level, and may include managing student behavior, monitoring and recording student progress in academic and daily living skills, and assisting with physical needs such as toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students in wheelchairs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
  • Candidates must have completed 60 semester/ 90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or have passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
  • Good communications, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
  • Ability to supervise students.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Must be physically working in the building.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings.
  • Manages behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
  • Monitors and records student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
  • Manages physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Performs position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, but not limited to toileting, feeding and self-care procedures, implementing behavioral management program; maintaining student data; working with students who may display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
