About The Position

Perform skilled support, confidential support to the classroom teacher as required. This position is a combination of 1.25 RLC, .2 Classroom Support, and 2.75 hours of Supervision. The role involves IEP Transition Support Plan and anticipating transition IEPs on a monthly basis, preparing assessments for transition IEPs, and conducting transition IEP interviews. The paraeducator will work with the Transition Specialist and IEP manager to determine appropriate student assessments and assist with IEP assessments. Distribution of transition information to the IEP manager, posting of the Post School Report, and assisting in gathering contact information from students prior to graduation are key responsibilities. The role also includes assisting with follow-up calls to special education students who left the high school in the prior year (June-November), entering information online to achieve an 80% or better response rate, and staying current with webinars and other information provided by the Center for Change in Transition Services. In cooperation with the high school special education secretary, the paraeducator will assist in preparing documentation of invitation information sheets for IEP and re-evaluation meetings, assist with the preparation of prior written notices for IEP, and may assist in scheduling appointments as well as creating/mailing IEP invitations. Assistance with IEP online student, evaluations, and program documentation is also required, along with performing other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or Ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing (i.e., para-educator assessment)
  • Previous successful experience of working with high school age children
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment plus computer skills with knowledge of Google applications and willingness to learn Skyward and other student data and IEP management systems
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Sensitivity towards children; ability to promote a child’s self concept
  • Ability and willingness to work with students from various backgrounds
  • Organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and students, including the monitoring and disciplining of student activities
  • Must be able to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment, confidentiality and tact in the performance of duties
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and be able to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Valid First Aid certificate and CPR training required
  • Ability to process student information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and work hours specified under contract

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions
