About The Position

This position involves providing academic support to individual and small groups of students in reading and math. The Paraeducator will work under the direction of a certificated staff member, assisting with instructional goals, providing guidance and motivation, and facilitating skill mastery. The role also includes correcting assignments, assisting with technology and materials, preparing classroom materials, and facilitating appropriate student behavior and participation. The position requires the ability to function calmly and efficiently, exercise judgment and confidentiality, and work independently while managing multiple tasks. The employee is continuously responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Requirements

  • AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing (i.e., para-educator assessment).
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to learn and monitor various student learning apps and programs
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment plus computer skills with knowledge of Google applications.
  • Previous successful experience of working with school-age children.
  • Must be able to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment, confidentiality and tact in the performance of duties.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize daily workload.
  • Must be able to work with staff and students, including the monitoring and disciplining of student activities.
  • Ability to maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified under contract.
  • Must comply with all district policies and code of professional conduct
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist supervising teacher(s) by administering tests, scoring tests, filing papers, maintaining student progress reports, organizing materials, setting up projects and giving support as required
  • Tutor individual and small groups of students to carry out daily reading and/or math instructional goals as necessary; provide guidance and motivation to students, facilitate mastery of skills concepts, promote completion of work.
  • Correct student assignments.
  • Assist students/teacher with technology and materials.
  • Prepare and inventory materials necessary for the classroom assignments.
  • Facilitate appropriate behavior and classroom participation of students.
  • Perform such other duties as, from time to time, may be required.
