About The Position

This is a 5.5 hour per day, 180 days per year position that provides support in multiple areas: 0.25 hours as a paraeducator, 3.0 hours in library services, 0.25 hours in nutrition services, and 2.0 hours as an office assistant. The successful candidate will collaborate with students, families, and staff to support student success. Duties include assisting with attendance input and processing required documentation, supporting library operations through organization, collection management, and shelving of materials, assisting students with book selection and library use, locating instructional materials, and providing support within the Nutrition Services Department. The role involves assisting teachers with instructional programs, supervising students in various settings, administering tests, collecting data, managing student behavior, providing clerical assistance, administering first aid and medications, performing crossing guard duties, and participating in meetings and training. The library paraeducator role specifically facilitates library operations, assists students with equipment and resources, maintains library appearance, operates office equipment for library instruction, provides clerical support, shelves books, manages late books and fines, orders materials in consultation with the principal and librarian, and promotes effective communication. The office assistant role involves performing clerical duties, answering phones, scheduling appointments, processing various documents, record keeping, data entry, and potentially assisting with student health needs and serving as a first aid provider. The nutrition service role involves food preparation and serving for school lunch and breakfast programs, assisting with kitchen duties, operating kitchen equipment, lifting food items, cleaning, and practicing safety habits. The position anticipates a start date of September 1, 2026, with hours from 8:35 a.m. to 2:35 p.m.

Requirements

  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following requirements: Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university, or Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council, or Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment. Pearson’s Paraprofessional Assessment. The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
  • Valid Washington Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.

  • Complete knowledge of Snohomish County and Washington State food safety, sanitation and proper temperatures including HAACP.
  • Ability to maintain updated knowledge of school policies and procedures that affect the school nutrition services program and this position.
  • Ability to participate in job related training.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • Ability to do math calculations and make correct change at a high school level.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and to be flexible in meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to correctly and safely lift up to 35 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or technical clerical training preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification (Required for Designated First Aid Providers).
  • One (1) year of applicable office or clerical experience. Vocational or technical clerical training may substitute for work experience.

  • Previous experience in the food industry preferred.
  • Vocational training in the food service industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher with planning, preparation and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs.
  • Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, assistance for students riding the bus, and perform crossing guard duties before and after school.
  • May assist with implementation of special education services for students i.e., IEP goals, medical assistance, physical support and personal care.
  • Facilitate the operation of the school library in an independent capacity while coordinating with a certificated librarian; assist students in use of equipment and resources; maintain security of materials and equipment; maintain physical appearance of library and display areas.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment used for library instruction to prepare, duplicate, collate and distribute materials for students and staff.
  • Provide clerical support related to maintaining records, files, lists, catalogs.
  • Shelve books and complete backups.
  • Notify student/teacher/parent of late books and/or fines and follow through on a regular basis for returned books and/or replacement payments.
  • Order materials in consultation with the principal and librarian for student and teacher library use.
  • Locate materials to support student and teacher use, activities and special projects in consultation with the principal and librarian.
  • Assist students individually with locating materials and utilizing other library resources and services.
  • Supervise and monitor students in library, model appropriate behavior, and behavioral rules to promote and maintain appropriate student behavior.
  • Assist in promoting effective communication with students, staff and parents.
  • Provide clerical support, answer phones; respond to inquiries from staff, parents, students and general public; direct inquiries to appropriate personnel; schedule appointments; and assist with other duties as directed for the purpose of providing quality customer service.
  • Process various documents and perform functions such as process mail and respond to inquiries; prepare and mail correspondence; responsible for a variety of information record keeping i.e., fiscal and/or student records; document filing, tracking information, data entry, etc.

  • Assist with all functions and duties in the kitchen including receiving, storing, preparing, serving and clean up.
  • Prepare appropriate quantity of food items by reading and interpreting recipes for large quantities, following USDA meal pattern requirements.
  • Assist with preparing daily cash records and comply with all cash handling procedures as trained and outlined in manual.
  • Operate kitchen equipment including slicers, mixers, ovens, and warmers for the purpose of preparing food items and maintaining appropriate food temperatures, following health department rules and regulations.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds in various containers using safe lifting techniques for the purpose of preparing and delivering large quantities of food items to serve students.
  • Assist with daily cleanup of kitchen and service areas including cleaning and proper storage of dishes, food items, and kitchen equipment for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions at all times.
  • Practice good safety habits at all times for the purpose of maintaining health and well being of school students and staff.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned including ordering/purchasing food and supplies, preparing inventory, and storing supplies for the purpose of maintaining an organized, efficient and safe work environment.
