About The Position

The Paraeducator Librarian at Lakeview Terrace Elementary is a classified position working 6.50 hours per day for 180 workdays per year. The shift time is subject to building needs. This role involves assisting students with library operations, technology, and learning support.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have earned 72 college level credits from an institution of higher education, have a college degree, or be able to pass the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Assessment.
  • Previous experience working with pupils in both individual and small group instructional situations.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must have basic computer skills including the Google Suite (docs, sheets, and slides), use of email, typing and be familiar with library setup and shelving system as well as the Follet Destiny system for inventory.
  • Must have a proven record of consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; able to bend/stoop down to shelve books and assist with inventory.
  • Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  • Within the first year of employment, successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators provided by the District, as defined in RCW 28A.413.070, and continue to meet future requirements as mandated by the State.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with 1:1 Chromebook issues including replacing computers/chargers and putting in tech tickets for repairs
  • Work with the Tech Department on tech tickets and Chromebook issues including student's accounts
  • Monitor copy machine, laminator, and paper supply in the library for teacher usage.
  • Repair books as needed
  • Complete tasks accurately and efficiently without constant/direct supervision.
  • Relate in a positive way with supervisory staff, teachers, other building employees, students, parents, and community members.
  • Work effectively with groups or individual students with or without supervision of certificated staff.
  • Use appropriate interventions in handling student misbehavior.
  • Demonstrate empathy and awareness of the needs of students.
  • Flexible, calm, and patient in trying situations.
  • Accurately maintain data and records.
  • Learn and implement new procedures with attention to details.
  • Catalog, shelve, and check out books.
  • Proctor district and state testing and assist classroom teachers with testing.
  • Ordering new books consistent with adopted curriculum.
  • Daily shelving of books; keeping the library neat and orderly.
  • Research information for students on Destiny program.
  • Learn and use the Accelerated Reader program or Lexile system.
  • Attend District library meetings.
  • Promptly and accurately follows specific instructions, and performs duties with a positive attitude.
  • Follow a duty (student supervision) schedule as assigned.
  • Works well with students, parents, teachers in collaborative shared decision making activities and services.
  • Complete on-going training.
  • Work independently and solve problems with a minimum of supervision.
  • Read to students aloud.
  • Supervision of students outside and inside the library as scheduled and as needed during inclement weather.
  • Exercise good judgment.
  • Enforce school and district policies.
  • Maintain good rapport with students and teachers.
  • Maintain district assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly.
  • Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive, respectful relationships and engagements.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
