About The Position

The San Diego Unified School District is seeking professionals who care deeply for students and are committed to the communities they serve. This position will use American Sign Language (ASL) and is open to all interested candidates. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for both monthly and substitute opportunities, and will be used for current and future vacancies. The Paraeducator Independence Facilitator - Bilingual/Signing assists individuals or small groups of students to enhance learning, including providing academic support, behavior intervention, and medical support to students in classroom settings. They assist teachers with instruction and classroom management in special education and general education classrooms, lunchrooms, and play environments, including distance learning and field trips.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • A passing score on the San Diego Unified School District Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) OR an Associate’s degree (or higher) OR 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university.
  • Must be available to work in person Monday-Friday.
  • Must provide a complete list of every school district, county office of education, charter school and/or state special school (Local Education Agency - LEA) with which you have previously been employed, regardless of the length of service.
  • Must provide the email address for each LEA's Human Resources or Personnel Office.
  • Contact information for three references (current or previous supervisor) must be listed.
  • Verification of Education (Copy of a degree or official transcript).
  • Copy of Licenses and/or Certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of post high school courses in Psychology, Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field is desirable.
  • Individuals who have completed high school or college-level coursework at an institution in a country other than the United States must provide a Foreign Equivalency Certification.

  • Maintain district certification in restraint reduction/avoidance.
  • Maintain district Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation training.
