Under supervision, perform a variety of instructional activities; assist in promoting student learning; perform routine and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and complete other related work as required within a collaborative team. This role involves working with students with a wide range of physical, mental, social and behavioral disabilities, from mild academic difficulties to severe intellectual impairment, and from mild physical disabilities to inability to perform basic self-care. The paraeducator will also support students who are shy and withdrawn to those who are acting out, potentially physically. The position requires assisting instructional personnel, tutoring individual students and small groups, monitoring and assisting in drill, practice, and study activities, directing students into safe learning activities, assisting in shaping appropriate social behaviors, and managing student behavior through positive strategies and collaboration on behavior plans. Additionally, the role involves preparing instructional materials, providing support for basic care needs (including toileting, diapering, dressing, feeding, and potentially catheterization), performing first aid, maintaining records, operating equipment, accommodating new students, administering and scoring tests, maintaining a safe learning environment, de-escalating students, assisting with transitions, monitoring recess, adhering to laws and policies, and mandatory reporting.
