Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this role assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in an assigned educational program. The Para-Educator helps children meet the goals and objectives of their Individualized Education Plan (IEP), attends to students' physical and health needs, and monitors and reports student progress. This position also performs various clerical and supportive duties related to classroom activities and management. It is distinguished by its primary responsibility for attendant physical duties, assisting with basic health needs, and supporting the creation and maintenance of engaging academic environments for students with disabilities. This role may serve as a step towards professional development as an Instructional Support Specialist or a certificated position.
