About The Position

Performs assigned duties related to the learning process by providing student behavioral support and reinforcement under the direction/supervision of the building administrator and Behavior Support Specialist. This is a ten-month a year position with salary according to the School Board Pay Plan. Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.

Requirements

Associate's Degree or higher; or high school diploma or equivalent with additional 48 semester credit hours from accredited institutions; or high school diploma or equivalent in addition to passing a rigorous test as approved by VDOE or YCSD for purposes of determining highly qualified status for teacher assistants.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, school staff, and parents.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Ability to perform a variety of routine and complex tasks with minimum supervision.
Basic knowledge and/or experience related to area of assignment.
Awareness of various characteristics of students with special needs.
Willingness to serve all students.
Ability to collect and effectively communicate student specific data both orally and in writing.
Demonstration of initiative and self-direction.
Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity to perform all job related responsibilities.
Ability to move about in classrooms to monitor students with varied seating and desk organization patterns.
Ability to monitor and support expected student behavior in all academic and non-academic settings.

Responsibilities

Perform assigned duties related to the learning process including implementing evidence-based practices.
Monitor and assist students under the direction/supervision of the building administrator.
Assist teachers in the maintenance and organization of a safe classroom.
Participate in professional development activities related to area of assignment.
Maintain confidentiality with regard to student records and information.
Collect, share and interpret data related to student behavior.
Follow established YCSD policies and procedures at all time.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
