About The Position

Perform duties to set up and operate automatic presses to blank friction material facings in accordance with customer requirements and high quality standards. Work from set up procedures, control plans, control plan addendums, press operating procedures and instructions: Produce on average 60,000 friction material facings per machine per shift. Demonstrate proficiency in setting up one (1) 60 ton press while simultaneously operating the other assigned press.

Responsibilities

  • Adjust servo feeds to correspond to part numbers being produced and for proper press timing and operation.
  • Adjust press counterbalance for correct blanking press pressure.
  • Adjust press ram to correct blanking height.
  • Load, feed and replace coil stock through blanking presses and adjust guides for proper material flow.
  • Program and align ink jet automated unit and ensure proper part number data and placement on material.
  • Inspect first piece parts using gauges to ensure correct finished part quality and review with Floor Leader for signoff on job setups.
  • Inspect parts throughout production run in accordance with control plan to ensure critical dimensions and finished standards are maintained and enter data onto operator check sheet.
  • Unload press finished product onto material handling containers.
  • Troubleshoot and inspect tooling press and ink jet unit when production problems arise and correct to maintain product quality, shim dies to gain acceptable finished part quality, replace broken or worn knockout die pins, modify dies to accept non-standard stock widths and stone and grind tooling surfaces as necessary to prevent scraping of friction material.
  • Notify Team Leader of unusual equipment or material problems.
  • Transport and store all production tooling and in Team Leader absence, conduct material handling for ALL incoming and outgoing material associated with machine centers.
  • Grease die leader pins to ensure adequate lubrication and input routine work orders on production machinery.
  • Ensure gauges are correctly calibrated, and initiate and hold defective material.
  • Stock consumables on a daily basis.
  • Produce prototype parts as requested and maintain and prepare required setup and production records.
  • Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
