About The Position

Nevada HAND’s pantries rely on Pantry Support positions to assist in the daily pantry operations, from arrival of the food to distribution to the residents. The main roles this position fulfills on a regular basis include selecting pantry items for the residents, sorting food deliveries, inventory, clean-up, and data recording The following essential functions of this position are performed independently, in collaboration with the supervisor, and/or in coordination with other staff. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Daily travel is required to support pantry operations. Personal Shoppers Guide and assist residents with their Food Checklist selection. Have knowledge of current inventory in the pantry. Pull food items selected by residents from a Food Checklist. Bag food items for the residents. Sorting Help sort food deliveries for storage in the pantry. Incoming food is sorted by: Type frozen food, food requiring refrigeration, fresh produce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned meat, bottled sauces, pasta, boxed food Size “Best By” dates Examine food deliveries to spot damage or expired food. Inventory Assist with stocking and re-stocking shelves. Rotate products in pantry storage. Clean-Up Light cleaning (sweeping, mopping, dusting, organizing) for safety and removal of clutter. Report any maintenance requests regarding repairs, appliances, lighting, trash removal, or general cleanliness to your supervisor. Data Recording Perform timely data entry into preferred database system to capture attendance and create pantry rosters for each designated pantry. OTHER FUNCTIONS AND WORK DUTIES: Perform other duties as from time to time may be determined necessary for the well-being of the total operation. Coordinate specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments in order to ensure the smooth and accurate flow of work and information. Perform tasks which are supportive in nature of the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed upon individual circumstances.

Requirements

  • A Valid Nevada State Driver License
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to two years’ experience supporting food distribution, food banks, or community programs.
  • Basic organization and inventory management
  • Ability to read and speak in English fluently.
  • Strong interpersonal relations and communicative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and follow food safety guidelines
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to lift and raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position.
  • Stooping - frequently bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Kneeling - frequently bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees.
  • Reaching - frequently extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Handling - frequently seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hand or hands. Regularly required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., food services) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., inspection).
