About The Position

The Panel Technician (Process) is accountable for the safe, stable, and optimized operation of LNG process systems from the Yokogawa DCS. This role is central to maintaining plant integrity, reliability, and performance. The position requires strong technical capability, sound judgment, and high situational awareness to manage plant conditions in a high‑hazard, dynamic operating environment. The Panel Technician works in close partnership with Field Operations and Maintenance to sustain production, manage risk, and respond effectively to changing operating conditions. Requirements

  • Minimum 5 yrs. solid experience in Petrochemical/LNG plant operations as a Panel Technician with experience in Utilities/Water treatment, shipping/storage and loading
  • Completed 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate with firing time or higher 
  • LNG process systems (warm end and cold end)
  • Amine and Stabilization Systems
  • Compression and refrigeration systems
  • Cryogenic Systems
  • Process safety principles and upset response
  • Possess a strong commitment to working safely and adhering to safe work practices
  • Possess the ability to adapt to change and be flexible with changing priorities/business needs
  • Possess strong collaboration and communication skills allowing you to build a strong and positive relationship with team members with diverse skillsets and personalities
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)  
  • Must be willing to live full time in Kitimat/Terrace region
  • Know that this is a 12hr rotating shift role with nights and days.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to work nights, weekends, holidays and be on-call to respond to emergencies when required
  • Willing and able to work in field positions as required by shift staffing requirements
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 23 kg from ground to waist level
  • Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
  • Willing and able to participate on an emergency response team (if assigned) and able to successfully complete fitness to work assessment
  • Willing to comply with LNG Canada’s drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedure
  • Willing to work collaboratively in a diverse and team-oriented environment
  • Panel operators will be initially assigned to either LNG Trains or the common facilities area (Utilities, Shipping and loading), however over the course of the assignment the operator will cross train in the other work area including field positions

Nice To Haves

  • LNG Plant Operator experience is an asset
  • Plant commissioning and start up experience is preferred
  • Experience with Yokogawa Centrum VP preferred but not required
  • Completion of NFPA 1081 or 1001 is preferred but not required, however some NFPA level certification may be required during run and maintain phase of plant operation if assigned to an emergency response role
  • Coordinate with technical resources or SME for alarm management and optimization of operations

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor LNG process systems from the Yokogawa DCS during steady‑state operations and process upsets
  • Maintain plant operations within approved operating windows, alarm setpoints, and the Production Plan
  • Proactively identify and respond to process deviations, alarms, and abnormal operating conditions
  • Execute start‑ups, shutdowns, and plant transitions in coordination with Field Operations using proceduralized actions in Accelerator
  • Support Emergency Response, potentially be a member of the emergency response team or hold a role in the control room to support response activities.
  • Optimize plant performance while maintaining safe operating envelopes
  • Manage the alarm system, including alarm rationalization and operator response
  • Apply and document logic forcing, alarm suppression, and safeguarding overrides in accordance with approved procedures
  • Ensure all overrides are controlled, communicated, risk assessed, mitigated, and accurately recorded in the Digital Twin
  • Use process data (PI, trends, Panel Rounds, etc.) to anticipate emerging issues and prevent escalation
  • Coordinate closely with Field Technicians to execute work safely and efficiently using proceduralized actions in Accelerator
  • Provide clear, effective direction during abnormal situations and plant upsets
  • Liaise with Laboratory and support groups to maintain product quality and process stability
  • Maintain accurate shift logs and high‑quality handovers
  • Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance reliability and plant performance through MTOs and 5 CRQs
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of operating procedures, alarm strategies, and control philosophies
  • Support the development of less experienced operators through coaching and knowledge sharing
  • Interface with systems including SAP, PI, LIMS, Permit Vision, and Digital Twin logs
  • Apply plant data and trends to support effective decision‑making and troubleshooting
