About The Position

South Shore Health is seeking a per diem Palliative Care Physician to perform consultations and provide assessments for pain/symptom management, prognostication and goal-setting, decision making, and hospice engagement. The physician will collaborate with other hospital departments and associated non-hospital entities to ensure continuity of supportive and palliative patient care. They will also attend continuing medical education, participate in education, and appropriately document all services and communicate with primary physicians. A key aspect of the role is partnering with patients and families to involve them in a Patient and Family Centered Health Care System that includes informed decision making and reliably meeting patient needs and preferences.

Requirements

  • MD
  • Successful completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General/Vascular Surgery, Internal Medicine, Medical Imaging, Neurology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, or Psychiatry.
  • Current subspecialty certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or active participation in the exam process.
  • Meets requirements of South Shore Health medical staff bylaws
  • Credentialed by SSH medical staff

Responsibilities

  • Perform consultations, as requested, with assessments for pain/symptom management, prognostication and goal-setting, decision making, and hospice engagement.
  • Collaborate with other Hospital departments and associated non-Hospital entities to ensure continuity of supportive and palliative patient care amongst relevant entities.
  • Attend periodic continuing medical education in topics related to supportive and palliative care.
  • Participate in providing supportive and palliative care education.
  • Appropriately document all services and communicate with “primary” physicians as needed.
  • Partner with patients and families to involve them in a Patient and Family Centered Health Care System that includes informed decision making, as well as reliably meeting patient’s needs and preferences.
