About The Position

The Palletizer Operator is responsible for producing pallets of product that are properly stacked, stretch-wrapped, and ready for warehouse storage. This role ensures the palletizing machinery operates efficiently, troubleshoots malfunctions, and maintains line efficiency. The operator also coordinates material handling, communicates with other operators and forklift drivers, and assists with the LP (Labeling/Palletizing) process. Teamwork, adherence to operating systems, and performing other duties as necessary are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Experience running large machines.
  • Fast-paced production experience preferred.
  • Background in manufacturing.
  • Experienced within a manufacturing/process environment with knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the palletizing machine is running at all times.
  • Troubleshoots all palletizer machine malfunctions/abnormalities in a timely manner to maintain overall line efficiency, including issues with shuttle cars, wrappers, and photo eyes.
  • Informs maintenance of any repairs needed on equipment.
  • Selects appropriate palletizing pattern.
  • Verifies code date at each changeover.
  • Notifies forklift driver of changeovers.
  • Ensures pallets are of acceptable quality and comply with QA standard guidelines.
  • Checks pallet pattern for each product and verifies that the palletizer is set up for the correct bag size and pattern.
  • Optimizes stack patterns to uphold the best quality for the customer by minimizing over-hang, eliminating product gaps, and presenting a tightly stacked symmetrical pallet.
  • Coordinates material handling and maintains open communication with forklift drivers to ensure lines do not run out of materials.
  • Communicates with Parsons/Thiele operators to plan ahead for upcoming changeovers.
  • Changes materials out as needed when changing products, ensuring correct materials (pallets, slip sheets, film) are utilized per product.
  • Assists the manifestor in the LP process and covers the manifest station during breaks.
  • Verifies the accuracy of LPs applied to pallets, ensuring G-Code and quantity are correct.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify areas lacking cohesiveness and brings them to the attention of the team leader, working with the team to resolve issues.
  • Maintains familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understands the position's role in supporting these systems.
  • Communicates concerns and improvement ideas regarding operating systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
