About The Position

The Data Engineer will join a dynamic team supporting a global IT systems implementation at the Department of State. The role involves reviewing and supporting the client’s data policies, processes, and standards to identify strengths and areas for improvement, and providing recommendations for the current and future architecture to support data and analytical needs. The candidate will also collect, transform, integrate, and analyze data to identify trends, assess performance, and develop visualizations in support of organizational and mission goals and data-driven decision-making for the client.

Requirements

  • ACTIVE and MAINTAINED SECRET Federal or DoD security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • THREE (3) years’ experience in hands-on data engineering and/or database management.
  • Understanding of relational database concepts and structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data blending, joining, and cleaning to ensure accurate and usable datasets using querying or data engineering software tools, such as SQL, Palantir, etc.
  • Experience using Palantir Foundry to clean, transform, and integrate complex datasets into production systems (e.g., Archibus).
  • Experience reading and cleaning data from external tables and importing it into relational database tables.
  • An acute attention to detail when reviewing tens-of-thousands of rows of data from numerous sources.
  • Ability to detect data issues affecting the performance of data pipelines and devise techniques for resolving or mitigating them.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members, other development groups, and users to determine and implement the best approach for all data synchronization work.
  • Flexibility to take direction from team members and adjust work activities for solutioning on various data efforts.

Nice To Haves

  • SIX (6) years’ experience in hands-on data engineering and/or database management.
  • Knowledge of Archibus and/or Kahua.
  • Proficiency in querying and joining datasets using SQL.
  • Proficiency in data wrangling and analysis using Python.
  • Proficiency developing dashboards using Tableau or Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data governance documentation, tools, and templates.
  • Define data requirements and ensure storage, availability, and coherence of electronically stored information meets the client’s needs.
  • Develop data pipelines involving collecting, transforming, cleaning, and validating data from multiple sources, using tools such as Palantir.
  • Coordinate with non-technical users to gather requirements.
  • Identify, summarize, and catalog data fidelity issues, and make recommendations to the client on how to resolve or mitigate the issues.
  • Request, document, report, and analyze data, and where applicable, create tools and resources to support data and reporting.
