About The Position

Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States, where UHealth - University of Miami Health System physicians treat children from throughout Florida and the Caribbean. Holtz Children's is known worldwide for its care of critically ill newborns in its neonatal intensive care unit, which is one of the largest in the United States and boasts some of the best medical outcomes. In collaboration with the Miami Transplant Institute, Holtz Children's is one of only three centers in the country that specializes in pediatric multi-organ transplants. It is home to one of only three state-accredited comprehensive children's kidney failure centers and one of the largest pediatric kidney transplant programs in the world. The Children's Heart Center at Holtz Children's is the only comprehensive children's heart program in South Florida. In partnership with the University of Miami, Holtz Children's also trains the most pediatric physicians of any medical center in the southeastern United States. Painter performs skilled work at the journeyman level in painting buildings, fixtures and various equipment. An employee in this classification applies paint to a variety of surfaces using a brush or spray gun. Work involves the preparation of surfaces and materials for painting, occasional hazardous jobs from scaffolding, and requires individual skilled performance in accordance with standard trade practices. Employees receive assignments orally or through written job orders, and work is inspected by a foreman or similar skilled superior while in process and upon completion.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  • Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
  • Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
  • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
  • Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
  • Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
  • Apply paint, vinyl and wallpaper including special papers and fabrics to walls, furniture and structures.
  • Prepare surfaces and apply paints, stains, shading stains, and clear finishes.
  • Remove previous paint by means of sandblasting, scraping, sanding, hydro-blasting and steam-cleaning.
  • Inspect and refurbish wall surfaces by means of the appropriate materials.
  • Read blueprints and drawings of the premise for the execution of painting job.
  • Order paint supplies and materials.
  • Submit finished work orders to supervisor.
  • Operate and maintain various power and manual tools.
  • Follow established protection procedures. Clean up job site after work and return equipment and tools.
