About The Position

As a Painter/Sandblaster, this position performs sandblasting and wet painting of raw steel platforms, products, and equipment. The role also moves platforms and other products using an overhead crane or forklift; performs general labor and cleaning tasks as directed; maintains and cleans equipment; and documents inspections and paint usage in the appropriate records. Work must be performed safely and in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Minimum of grammar school education.
• Ability to perform basic math functions.
• Basic command of English, both written and verbal.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in wet painting, sandblasting, and surface preparation techniques.
• Proficiency using airless and conventional paint spraying systems with very minimal to no defects.
• Knowledge of wet painting and proper paint-mixing techniques, including two-part epoxy primer and polyurethane paint.
• Proficiency using steel-grit blasting equipment and knowledge of basic maintenance.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a small team and perform required tasks with little supervision.
• Ability to perform and recognize commercial-grade blast cleaning on steel.
• Ability to use wet and dry paint film thickness gauges.
• Ability to use a dial thickness gauge to achieve the required blast anchor profile.
• Ability to recognize and properly repair paint-finish defects, such as runs, holidays, and orange peel.
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on airless and conventional paint spraying equipment.
• Ability to follow directions, company operating procedures, safety rules, and ISO requirements.
• Ability to work shifts of up to 12 hours upon request.
• Ability to stand and walk continuously on a concrete floor for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
• Ability to frequently lift metal objects weighing up to 50 pounds for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
• Ability to pass a breathing test and full-face respirator fitment test.

Responsibilities

• Sandblast and paint raw steel platforms, products, and equipment.
• Move platforms and various products using an overhead crane or forklift.
• Perform sandblasting and wet painting tasks safely and in a timely manner.
• Perform general labor and cleaning tasks as directed by a supervisor or leadperson.
• Follow routine maintenance procedures and clean equipment.
• Document inspections and paint usage in the appropriate records.
• Maintain a clean work area by picking up trash, sweeping floors, and disposing of paints and solvents in the appropriate location throughout and at the end of the shift.
