About The Position

Friendship is hiring a full-time Painter for its Friendship North team in Roanoke, Virginia. The Painter performs routine maintenance and troubleshoots and repairs facility equipment. The work includes residential and light commercial painting, sheetrock repair, color matching, and wallpaper repair and installation. The employee also develops and maintains knowledge of building systems, identifies potential problems, and works with building occupants to support their safety and comfort. The role requires rotating one-week periods of 24-hour on-call availability, including availability for emergency calls and inclement weather. Pay is $20.00–$24.00 per hour.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Valid, unencumbered Virginia driver’s license.
3–5 years of experience in residential and light commercial painting, sheetrock repair, and color matching.
Knowledge of wallpaper repair and installation.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch throughout the day.
Ability to frequently lift or move objects weighing over 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Perform residential and light commercial painting, sheetrock repair, and color matching.
Repair and install wallpaper.
Service equipment carefully to minimize rework and equipment repair needs.
Follow Friendship Retirement Community guidelines when purchasing materials and supplies.
Repair equipment within a reasonable time frame to ensure occupants’ safety and comfort.
Immediately report major equipment breakdowns to the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
Develop and maintain current knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, sheet metal, carpentry, roofs, doors and locks, and fire alarms.
Identify building-system problems for early detection and possible prevention of breakdowns.
Work harmoniously with building occupants to support their safety and comfort.
Use required safety equipment, clothing, and shoes, and consistently follow OSHA safety standards.
Be available for 24-hour emergency calls and inclement weather, serving one-week periods of on-call duty on a rotating schedule.
