About The Position

This position is responsible for all operations related to grinding, polishing and prepping items for the painting, and also being able to perform painting and powder coating operations.

Requirements

  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Able to accurately measure with a tape measure and square to 1/32" and convert decimals to fractions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic knowledge of computers to log in, and navigate to access job folders to view documents to retrieve paint specifications may be necessary.
  • Ability to distinguish stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum and read blue prints and schematics.
  • Must be willing work overtime on an as-needed basis to maintain production deadlines.
  • Able to wear and use a respirator is required for this job.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience painting in the auto body industry is desirable.
  • Forklift certification may be required or a willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Determine materials in need of grinding, selecting proper grinding tool and grit disk.
  • Prepare and prep all parts (standard or special) with filler material to ensure a smooth finish and grind piece to provide a quality surface for finishing.
  • Clean all parts and products in a proper manner to ensure good paint adhesion.
  • Review order quote, order entry document, general assembly and part details to determine proper color paint and mix special paints as required for each product.
  • Operate wet spray equipment, siphon feed pressure pot and diaphragm pump.
  • Apply standard product finishes ensuring complete coverage on all product.
  • Review own work and proceeds to correct any defects before product moves to the next department.
  • Clean and repair spray equipment to ensure it is operational and working properly.
  • Perform both wet spray paint and powder coat painting applications.
  • Examine and feel surface of work piece for defects.
  • Select grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attach to grinder.
  • Start grinder and move it over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material/burs.
  • Polish all weld seams to a seamless finish on flat surfaces, paying close attention to detail.
  • Finish all corner weld seams to a smooth-rounded seams; no corners.
  • Finish all stainless steel oven/chamber parts (interior trays and control units) via finish grinder.
  • Transfer various sized stainless steel chambers from welding to grinding or finishing area.
  • Replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
