About The Position

MaineGeneral Medical Center, part of the MaineGeneral Health system, is dedicated to providing high-quality care and maintaining safe, well-kept facilities. They are seeking a motivated and skilled Painter/General Maintenance Technician to join their Plant Operations team. This role is crucial for the aesthetic upkeep, preventative maintenance, and general repair of healthcare facilities, including maintaining interior and exterior finishes, overseeing vendor projects, and contributing to the overall safety and appearance of the campuses. The ideal candidate will be dependable, trustworthy, and capable of working independently while upholding high standards of quality and safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–3 years of professional painting, maintenance, or construction experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation, painting techniques, and use of maintenance tools.
  • Familiarity with building safety codes, firestop standards, and inspection requirements.
  • Basic computer skills required—must be comfortable using work order systems, email, spreadsheets, and inventory software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hospital environment.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, stand, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cosmetic checks and general upkeep of walls, floors, and ceilings through regular building inspections.
  • Complete patching, paint-outs, light drywall repairs, and remove/install office counters and cabinetry as needed.
  • Execute monthly scheduled preventative maintenance, cosmetic corrective work, and support planned events.
  • Properly care for and maintain hospital-provided tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Manage paint inventory and vendor accounts, ensuring timely ordering and appropriate stock levels.
  • Coordinate and schedule floor repairs with vendors, including processing purchase orders and invoices.
  • Issue, process, and file Above Ceiling permits electronically.
  • Conduct firestop inspections and complete repairs in accordance with life safety standards for smoke barrier walls.
  • Perform sprinkler system and fire equipment inspections as required by regulatory codes.
  • Evaluate parking lots and perform striping at various campuses as scheduled.
  • Support snow removal efforts during winter months, including shoveling and de-icing walkways.
  • Use computer-based work order systems and software for documenting work, managing tasks, and tracking inventory.
