About The Position

This role involves preparing and applying paint, varnish, stains, or lacquer to interior and exterior surfaces of the hospital. The painter will also be responsible for creating artwork on various materials, preparing surfaces by smoothing and removing old paint, and protecting surrounding areas. The position requires the ability to estimate job requirements, work independently, and perform related duties as assigned, including sheetrock hanging and finishing.

Requirements

• High School, GED, Trade School completion preferred
• 5 Years painting and wallpaper installation
• Able to follow written and verbal directions.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Lifts and carries objects such as ladders, containers of paint and rolls of covering materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Climbs and balances on ladders when painting upper walls, ceilings and stairway.
• Kneels, crouches, stoops and crawls when preparing surfaces for painting or papering.

Responsibilities

• Prepares paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required amounts of pigment, oil, thinner, and drying substances.
• Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, or lacquer to decorate and protect the exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of the hospital, using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
• Draws and paints artwork on materials such as glass, canvas, wood, and plastics. Prepares sketches or drawings from memory when needed. Creates special effects by applying paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers.
• Smoothes surfaces using sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scrapers, wire brushes to prepare surfaces for painting; Spreads cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect them from splattering paint.
• Estimates time and materials needed for job assignments.
• Accomplishes work assignments in a timely manner unsupervised.
• Hangs and finishes sheetrock.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
