Requirements

  • Ability to pass in-house forklift/telehandler certification
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work systematically
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret documents and instructions
  • Ability to focus and remain in Blast/Paint Booth for up to 2 hours at a time, or until unit is completed
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be 18 years of age or older for insurance purposes
  • Consistently drag up to 100 pounds
  • Consistently lift/carry up to 75 pounds
  • Consistently bend at the knees and/or waist in potentially awkward positions
  • Frequently crawl and lay on floor and under equipment for underbody blasting
  • Frequently climb ladders or sides of trailers up to 10 feet; frequently perform duties on an elevated surface
  • Consistently perform hand and wrist movements
  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Stand up to 100% of the workday
  • Work in restricted spaces
  • Wear head-to-toe protective suit and helmet, up to 2 hours at a time
  • Ability to work in an environment with extreme heat, cold, wet/slippery conditions, and/or loud noise levels; partially work outside year-round

  • Experience with manufacturing heavy machinery
  • Previous experience with forklift/telehandler
  • Experience steel and/or sand blasting
  • Experience applying sprayed paint

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts and/or telehandlers to organize units and move them in/out of Blast/Paint Room
  • Load and/or hang units onto racks, fixtures, jigs, sawhorses, and/or stands
  • Mask and protect specified areas from abrasion with tape and/or paper; evenly apply caulking beads to seams of assembled units
  • Set up and use high-pressure blasting equipment to abrade metal surfaces to remove mill scale, paint, rust, and/or dirt
  • Apply primer then paint and other finishes using brushes, spray guns, and/or rollers; select and mix coating additives to thin or promote drying and adhesion, as needed
  • Electronically track hours worked on each unit to better understand efficiencies and actual production costs
  • Perform quality inspections throughout blasting/painting processes
  • Sweep Blast Room to reclaim steel grit into collection system
  • Monitor dust collector and fresh air systems and document readings and any required maintenance including filter changes
  • Disassemble paint and blast equipment and clean equipment, using solvent, wire brushes and dry cloth
  • Troubleshoot equipment and perform minor machine maintenance
  • Comply with all safety and environmental regulatory compliance requirements
  • Maintain regular and predictable on-site attendance
