POSITION SUMMARY Under minimal supervision, prepare wood, metal, and fiberglass surfaces for painting, and paint parts, equipment, the interior and exterior of ships and Company equipment and buildings. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described. Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Comply with Company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties. Prepare work site; transport paint, tools, materials, and equipment to job site as needed. Prepare surfaces for painting; mix solvents according to formula. Remove grease, dirt, paint, and/ or rust, etc. from surfaces using abrasives, solvents, brushes, etc. Protect surfaces or items that are not to be painted using masking tape or other material as required. Operate or tend painting and/ or sandblasting equipment to paint and/ or sandblast surfaces. Paint areas inaccessible to spray gun or retouch painted surface, using brush/roller. Mix and match colors of paint. Maintain a clean work area, tools, and equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May indirectly supervise and train subordinates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years of marine painting experience desired.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations desired.
  • Knowledge of the transportation and storage of hazardous material requirements desired.
  • Requires thorough working knowledge of marine coating applications and surface preparation.
  • Strong working knowledge in the proper use and care of spray guns, brushes, rollers, sandblasting equipment, etc. required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure.
  • Ability to determine the difference between colors, matching or detecting any type of difference between colors they work with.
  • Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety conscious, and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of marine painting experience desired.
