The Paint Shop Utility Operator prepares and mixes powder and other coating materials to match standardized colors, consistencies, and viscosities for spray finishing parts and products of varying sizes and configurations. The operator adjusts powder-pot pressure and airflow and ensures drying temperature and conveyor speed are set appropriately for the area being coated, material viscosity, and atmospheric conditions. The role includes operating and maintaining an automated paint system and supporting coating, preparation, and production processes. The operator cleans guns, nozzles, and equipment with appropriate solvents or cleaning materials, changes nozzles as needed, and prepares surfaces for coating. When rotating through assignments, the operator loads and unloads parts on a conveyor, inspects them for defects or damage, checks coating finish quality and appearance, and places protective materials around parts before packaging to prevent finish damage. In the Prep Area, the operator cleans and prepares parts, monitors solution levels, takes samples, and performs calculations for prep-tank titration. The operator also closes and releases demand-flow items to production and uses a computer to document non-conforming material and perform cycle counts. The position requires following safety rules and maintaining a clean, orderly work area. Other related duties may be assigned. This position is based at Federal Signal in University Park. The posted shift is 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The wage range is $19.46–$24.99 per hour, plus a $1 shift differential.
