About The Position

OPmobility (formerly Plastic Omnium Auto Exterior LLC) is seeking a full-time Paint Process Engineer for their Anderson, SC location. This role is responsible for various aspects of paint process development and validation within the automotive industry. The engineer will collaborate with suppliers, manage technical relationships, ensure product quality meets customer specifications, and contribute to continuous improvement and productivity projects. This position requires a strong understanding of paint application processes, robotic programming, and jig design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field of study.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Paint Process Engineer, Robot Programmer, or related role.
  • Process knowledge of robotic application of liquid paint to achieve Class A finish in the Automotive Industry.
  • Experience with changing the color and surface structure of metallic colors by altering process parameters.
  • Experience in the design of jigs to achieve ergonomic, cost-efficient, and stiff jigs.
  • Experience in placing parts in the application window to achieve quality and part density requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Respects and follows safety rules (Plants, business trip, Personal protective Equipment).
  • Takes part in “Quad” meetings and promotes the application of Design to Paint methodology.
  • Uses and follows the paint development guide (opticolor & paint ‘in).
  • Answers project requests and defines Paint Zoning commitments at the project's inception.
  • Manages technical relationships with paint raw material suppliers (paint product validation through Paint ‘In, samples for first runs, etc.).
  • Takes part in the drafting of the purchasing development chart.
  • Assists the MPM for paint validation.
  • Follows up on jig development from CAD design to final acceptance on site (including prototype phase).
  • Validates paint range/process/customer specifications (mechanical & aspect).
  • Proposes and coordinates the realization of specific means (jigs, masking).
  • Proposes and coordinates path programming development.
  • Plans, organizes, and assists in initial sample realization.
  • Takes part in run@rate (process validation) and reports performance levels and/or necessary improvements.
  • Coordinates the global quality of painted products.
  • Fills the “plant process information” data.
  • Proposes continuous improvement plans to the plant.
  • Capitalizes and compares initial quotations.
  • Manages/participates in productivity projects (upon plant request).
  • Validates proposed solutions (specification & process hardiness).
  • Capitalizes on validated actions.
